The Lessons of the Academia Urquiza focus on three main subjects: body work, learning new figures and Tango Salón. In order to achieve a subtle body awareness close attention is simultaneously paid to posture and movement as well as to a high quality of embrace. The lessons concentrate on teaching a family of figures which are specific to the style and are co-ordinated with each other in a harmonic way. Tango Salón, the purest form of Tango consist of basic elements, and, if done well, the personal expression benefits through this reduction. Body awareness, Tango Salón and the play of figures complement each other to an integrated concept of teaching. The classes are limited to ten couples and are given by a teaching couple.
The Milonga represents, one could say, the essence of Tango Argentino and the culture surrounding it. In the Milonga Tango as a social phenomenon takes place. Dancing in the Milonga is of course the most desired, but it is not all. Meeting other dancers and guests of the Salón to exchange views about dance and music, to discuss other topics or just to relax, to enjoy and to be entertained are also important goals.
In the Milonga it is possible to observe other dancers and by doing so to refine once perception of the tango.
